Russian deputy PM: Iran to sign free-trade zone deal with EAEU soon

GROZNY, Nov 1 (PRIME) -- Russia and Iran have agreed that Tehran would sign a deal to create a free-trade zone with the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) very soon, Deputy Prime Minister Alexander Novak said in a news conference on Tuesday following a meeting of an intergovernmental commission of the two countries on trade and economic cooperation.

“We also agreed to lift all the barriers that exist today on the way of development of trade between our countries. We are talking about reduction of barriers at the borders of third countries. We agreed to sign an agreement on a free-trade zone between Iran and the Eurasian Economic Union fast,” he said.

During the meeting, Russia and Iran discussed the key directions of cooperation, including joint work in the spheres of energy, agriculture, transport, and industry. The two countries have already launched swap delivery of energy, including petroleum products, and agreed to expand the list of goods to be delivered under the swap deals, he said.

The two countries also see great prospects for joint projects, including projects in shipbuilding, car assembly, and aviation industry, Novak said.
